Job summary

Southern Transport Limited in Invercargill is seeking a reliable Class 5 Driver for our General Cartage Division. You will operate heavy vehicles, work with our dispatcher to deliver a safe, reliable service, and perform daily safety checks.

Ideal candidates are licensed to NZ Class 5, safety‑minded, with good logbook and fatigue management knowledge. Minimum 40 hours per week, Monday to Saturday roster, with hours between 6am–6pm. NZD 31–33 gross per hour depending on skills and experience.

Qualifications

• Ability to complete daily vehicle safety checks accurately.
• Knowledge of logbook, work-time and fatigue management requirements.

Responsibilities

• Safely operate Class 5 vehicles and truck-and-trailer units.
• Carry out daily vehicle safety checks and report faults.

• Perform associated manual tasks safely.
• Wear PPE and report incidents/hazards promptly.

About the role

You'll operate heavy vehicles to carry out general cartage work, working closely with our dispatcher to deliver a safe, reliable service.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Safely operating Class 5 vehicles and truck-and-trailer units.
• Completing daily vehicle safety checks and promptly reporting faults.
• Maintaining accurate logbooks and complying with work-time and fatigue requirements.
• Following NZTA regulations, company procedures and customer site rules.
• Completing associated manual tasks safely.
• Wearing the required PPE and promptly reporting incidents and hazards.
• Maintaining professional relationships with customers, colleagues and other site personnel.

Hours and pay

• Employment type: Full-time
• Pay: NZD $31-$33 gross per hour, depending on skills and experience.
• Minimum guaranteed hours: 40 hours per week.
• Roster: Monday to Saturday, with work scheduled within the 6am-6pm operating window. Actual rostered hours and breaks will comply with applicable work-time requirements.

What you'll bring

You'll be reliable, safety-conscious and comfortable working in a busy transport environment. You'll need:

• A current licence permitting you to legally operate Class 5 vehicles in New Zealand.
• The ability to operate heavy vehicles safely and complete daily vehicle checks.
