Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a dedicated Chemical Process Safety Engineer for our client in Queenstown to ensure safety across operations. The role focuses on identifying, assessing, and mitigating risks in chemical processes, developing robust safety management systems, conducting hazard analyses, and promoting a strong safety culture.

You will lead PHAs (HAZOP, LOPA, FMEA), implement PSM programs, investigate incidents, ensure compliance with OSHA PSM/Seveso III and other regulations, and deliver

Qualifications

• Degree in Chemical Engineering or related safety field.
• Minimum 5 years of process safety experience.
• Knowledge of PSM standards (OSHA PSM, Seveso III).
• Experience with risk assessment methodologies and safety system design.
• Strong analytical and communication skills.

Responsibilities

About the Role

Our client is seeking a dedicated Chemical Process Safety Engineer to ensure the highest standards of safety across their operations in Queenstown . This critical role focuses on identifying, assessing, and mitigating risks associated with chemical processes. You will be responsible for developing and implementing robust safety management systems, conducting hazard analyses, and promoting a strong safety culture throughout the organization. This position is vital for protecting our employees, the environment, and our assets, contributing to sustainable and responsible operations in the Eastern Cape.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct and lead Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs), including HAZOP, LOPA, and FMEA studies.
• Develop, implement, and maintain Process Safety Management (PSM) programs and procedures.
• Investigate incidents and near misses, identifying root causes and recommending corrective actions.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant national and international process safety regulations.
• Develop and deliver safety training programs to plant personnel.
• Perform safety audits and inspections to verify compliance and identify potential hazards.

Requirements

• Degree in Chemical Engineering or a related safety-focused discipline.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in process safety engineering within the chemical or petrochemical industry.
• In-depth knowledge of Process Safety Management (PSM) standards (e.g., OSHA PSM, Seveso III).
• Proven experience with risk assessment methodologies and safety system design.
• Strong understanding of chemical reaction hazards and safeguards.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
