Job summary

Ramen Takara Limited in Auckland is seeking a talented and experienced chef to join our vibrant ramen restaurant. Established in 1978, we serve authentic Japanese ramen and a range of traditional dishes, including our pork gyoza and karaage.

The role involves planning menus, cooking to spec, supervising kitchen staff, and ensuring high standards of food safety. Shifts include weekday and weekend dinners, with a roster that may require work at various locations across Auckland.

Qualifications

  • Candidates must have at least 2 years of relevant work experience or a formal culinary credential.
  • A current New Zealand driver licence is required.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced commercial kitchen and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

  • Plan menus and create new dishes as required.
  • Prepare and cook food from the menu in a timely manner.
  • Carry out specialised cooking duties.
  • Ensure appealing presentation and consistently high food quality.
  • Gather and prepare all necessary ingredients according to recipes.
  • Prepare and cook appropriate quantities of food and stock to minimise wastage.
  • Monitor kitchen operations and supervise other chefs and kitchen staff as required.
  • Assist with training kitchen staff in efficient cooking procedures and maintaining high cooking standards.
  • Monitor stock levels and place orders with food suppliers.
  • Estimate food, ingredient and labour requirements and costs.
  • Communicate food-related issues with suppliers, managers and other chefs.
  • Experiment with recipes and suggest new ingredients and dishes.
  • Modify recipes to meet customers' dietary requirements and requests.

Authentic Japanese Ramen restaurant, Ramen Takara is looking for a talented chef.

We are looking for a talented and experienced chef to join our vibrant ramen restaurant. Ramen Takara is a Japanese noodle house established in 1978, serving authentic Japanese ramen and a range of traditional Japanese dishes, including our famous pork gyoza and karaage chicken.

Location:
  • 272 Ponsonby Road, Ponsonby, Auckland
  • The employer's mobile food truck operating at various locations and events throughout the Auckland region.

The employee may be required to work at any of the above locations according to operational requirements and the roster.

Working Hours:Minimum 30 hours per week, up to 40 hours per week.

The restaurant operates from 10:00 am to 11:00 pm, Tuesday to Sunday. Working hours will be allocated on a roster and may include evenings, weekends and public holidays.

Key Responsibilities

  • Modify recipes to meet customers' dietary requirements and requests, such as removing dairy or reducing salt
  • Ensure compliance with food safety, hygiene, and health and safety requirements within the kitchen
Requirements

Applicants must meet at least one of the following requirements:

  • At least 2 years of relevant work experience; OR
  • A Diploma in Cookery; OR
  • A Bachelor's degree in any field

The successful applicant will also:

  • Hold a current New Zealand driver licence
  • Be able to work efficiently in a fast-paced commercial kitchen
  • Be able to work effectively as part of a team
  • Be available to work weekday and weekend dinner shifts (5:00 pm until late), as well as other rostered shifts when required
  • Experience cooking ramen or other Japanese dishes in a commercial setting is advantageous
