Job summary

NZ Playcentre Federation is seeking a Centre Coordinator for part-time hours (7.5 hours per week) starting 12 October 2026. The role involves collaborating with centre whānau and support staff to build adult capability and leadership within sessions, ensuring Playcentre Philosophy informs sessions and children's learning.

You will deliver high-quality guidance on curriculum, adult education, and health and safety, and you will model whānau-led session delivery while maintaining regulatory

Qualifications

• Passion for Playcentre philosophy and empowering whānau.
• Confidence using technology to support learning & administration.
• Strong knowledge of Te Whāriki, ECE regulations, and a commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
• NZ residency or a valid NZ work visa.
• Hold and maintain appropriate First Aid certification.

Responsibilities

• Developing whānau to be the first and best educators for their tamariki by ensuring rich, meaningful, child-led curriculum experiences.
• Role-modelling and supporting the delivery of high quality, whānau-led sessions.
• Providing advice and support to centre whānau focusing on curriculum, adult education and health and safety to support session delivery.
• Ensure sessions meet regulatory and legislative requirements including Health and Safety obligations.
• Recognise the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and how they relate to Playcentre and actively engage in promotion of Māori cultural values.

Playcentre Diploma Course 3 (or equivalent ECE Qualification Level 4+)

• Thursday 9.00am - 12.00pm
• Fixed term position during term time only ending 18 December 2026

About the role:

Working in collaboration with centre whānau and other centre support staff, the Centre Coordinator focuses on building adult capability and confidence. This enables adults to progressively take greater leadership in sessions and centre responsibilities, supporting a whānau-led environment.

As the Person Responsible on session, this role provides high quality support and pedagogical guidance to Playcentre whānau. The Centre Coordinator ensures sessions and programmes reflect Playcentre Philosophy and enriches children's learning and development.

Duties include, but are not limited to:
