Job summary

Qube Ports NZ is seeking casual Stevedoring General Hands for Napier Port. The role is hands-on, physically demanding and safety-focused, with training across the port operations and a 24/7 schedule.

You will join a team focused on safe, efficient cargo handling, with opportunities to work with ships diggers, cranes and palletised cargo. A minimum Restricted Class 1 license is required.

Qualifications

• Be physically fit and safety-conscious with a can-do attitude.
• Hold a minimum Restricted Class 1 driver’s license.
• Work well in a 24/7 port operation and team environment.
• Willing to learn varied duties across port operations.

Responsibilities

• Cargo handling: Load, unload, and move cargo safely and efficiently.
• Operate ships digger, ships crane, and log grapple with care.
• Bulk cargo handling: Hopper operation, sweeping, cleaning holds and wharves.
• Work under the hook: sling cargo, set up equipment, assist wharf ops.
• Rigging and securing: Strap and lash cargo using chains and dunnage.
• Container work: Pack/unpack, manual handling or forklifts, record moves.
• Palletised cargo: Stow and secure pallets with pallets trucks and airbags.
