Job summary

Qube Ports NZ is seeking casual Excavator Operators and Ship Crane Operators at Timaru Port. You will operate a 20T excavator with log grapple or the vessel crane to load logs, working closely with the stevedoring team in a 24/7 operation.

These are highly skilled roles requiring precision and a strong safety focus; you must pass a pre-employment medical and drug test and be eligible to work in New Zealand.

Qualifications

• Proven experience operating excavators, cranes, or similar heavy machinery.
• Safety-conscious with excellent situational awareness.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

• Operate excavators or ship cranes safely and efficiently.

Position: Casual Log Excavator & Ship Crane Operators

Qube is looking for experienced Excavator Operators and Ship Crane Operators to join our stevedoring team at Timaru Port on a casual basis.

As an Excavator Operator, you'll operate a 20T excavator fitted with a log grapple to safely stow export logs within vessel holds and on deck. As a Ship Crane Operator, you'll operate the vessel's crane to efficiently load logs while working closely with the stevedoring team. These are highly skilled roles requiring precision, situational awareness, and a strong focus on safety.

Your job duties would be:

• Operate excavators or ship cranes safely and efficiently.
• Load, stow, and position export logs within vessel holds and on deck.
• Work closely with stevedores, vessel crew, and other operators.
• Complete pre-start inspections and report equipment issues.
• Follow all port, vessel, and company health and safety requirements.

You will also need to:

• Have proven experience operating excavators, cranes, or similar heavy machinery.
• Be safety-conscious with excellent situational awareness.
• Be physically fit and able to work in a demanding environment.
• Have strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Be reliable and flexible to work within a 24/7 operation.
• Hold a minimum Restricted Class 1 driver's licence.
