Job summary

Asteron Life NZ is seeking an experienced Case Manager to join the Claims team. You will manage disability claims from assessment through resolution, gathering medical, financial and occupational information to determine entitlements and develop claim strategies.

You will support customers through recovery and return-to-work planning, build relationships with health professionals and advisers, and ensure decisions comply with policy terms and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

• Manage a portfolio of disability claims from initial notification through to resolution, delivering timely and high-quality customer outcomes.
• Assess medical, financial and occupational information to determine claim eligibility, liability and ongoing benefit entitlements.
• Build strong relationships with customers and support them throughout their recovery journey.
• Collaborate with medical professionals, advisers and service providers to gather information and progress claims effectively.
• Monitor ongoing claims, review progress, and implement rehabilitation initiatives where appropriate.
• Maintain accurate claim records and ensure all decisions are made in accordance with policy terms, guidelines and compliance requirements.
• Contribute positively to team outcomes through collaboration, knowledge sharing and stakeholder engagement.

The Opportunity

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Case Manager to join Asteron Life NZ's Claims team and make a meaningful difference in customers' lives during some of their most challenging times.

You’ll be responsible for managing claims from assessment through to resolution, gathering and evaluating medical, financial and occupational information to determine entitlements and develop appropriate claim strategies. A key aspect of the role involves supporting customers with recovery, rehabilitation and return-to-work planning, helping them achieve the best possible outcomes while ensuring claims are managed in line with policy terms and business requirements.

We’re looking for someone who can hit the ground running and confidently manage a portfolio from day one. Experience managing disability claims is highly valued, although individuals with broader health, rehabilitation or wellbeing experience have also found success in similar roles.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate the following:

• Previous experience managing disability claims and the ability to confidently manage a portfolio independently.
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to engage effectively with customers and stakeholders.
• Experience supporting customers through recovery, rehabilitation or return-to-work planning.
• Ability to assess and interpret medical, financial and occupational information to make sound decisions.
• Understanding of medical terminology and the impact of health conditions on work capacity.
• Strong organisational skills, attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities.
• Excellent problem-solving and decision-making capabilities.
• A customer-focused approach, with resilience, empathy and professionalism when managing sensitive situations.
• A background in health, rehabilitation or a related field will be highly regarded.
