Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Go through job information in advance and confirm materials, quantities and installation requirements.
• Measure and set out each area, then cut and fit the flooring to an accurate finish.
• Install carpet together with underlay, trims and accessories.
• Install sheet vinyl and vinyl plank flooring where you are competent and have been trained.
• Prepare subfloors through smoothing, grinding and levelling when the job calls for it.
• Lift existing floor coverings and dispose of them.
• Identify access, preparation, scheduling or site-condition issues and report them promptly.
• Uphold quality standards and hand over completed work clean and tidy.
• Communicate in a professional way with customers, builders, site managers and suppliers.
• Complete timesheets and job information without errors.
• Load, unload and transport materials, tools and equipment safely, maintain that equipment and work to health and safety requirements.

Job description

An established Christchurch flooring company is enlarging its installation team and needs experienced carpet and flooring installers, senior installers who can lead jobs, and motivated starters who want to learn the trade. Juniors, current apprentices and those ready to begin an apprenticeship can all apply, and the employer may appoint more than one strong candidate.

The work is residential and light commercial flooring throughout Christchurch and its surrounding area. Positions are permanent and full‑time with a minimum of 37.5 hours per week, typically 40 to 42, mostly Monday to Friday plus occasional extra hours. Seniors carry a job from site arrival to completion and organise another installer or a small crew; trainees are paired with experienced installers.

The employer welcomes AEWV applicants, including candidates who need its sponsorship support to apply for an Accredited Employer Work Visa. Employment is subject to obtaining the appropriate New Zealand work rights.

• Senior candidates need strong carpet installation skills, can run jobs independently and are confident organising and supporting another installer or a small crew; sheet vinyl and vinyl plank installation experience is highly valued.
• Previous flooring experience is not required from trainee applicants, though reliability, willingness to learn, practical interest and a good attitude to work are essential.
