Job summary

Simply Events Ltd is hiring a full-time Caretaker-Gardener to look after the grounds and outdoor maintenance of our two wedding venues, Tui Hills and Abel Estate, in West Auckland.

You’ll handle regular garden upkeep—lawns, edging, weeding, pruning, hedge trimming—and undertake a range of caretaker tasks around the properties, from minor repairs to checking lighting and drainage, gutters, and paths, ensuring the venues look immaculate for events and visitors.

Qualifications

• Experience with lawn care and garden maintenance at scale.
• Ability to operate garden power tools safely.
• Strong practical problem-solving and presentation mindset.
• Experience maintaining commercial venues or large grounds is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Maintain lawns, edging, weeding, pruning and hedge trimming.
• Care for outdoor areas, buildings and paths to immaculate condition.
• Carry out minor repairs, lighting checks, drainage and gutters maintenance.
• Spot issues early and coordinate basic fixes with team when needed.

Looking for a practical, hands-on role with plenty of variety?

We’re looking for a full-time permanent Caretaker-Gardener to look after the grounds and outdoor maintenance of our two wedding venues, Tui Hills and Abel Estate, in West Auckland.

Our gardens are well established, so the role is primarily about keeping the grounds, buildings and outdoor areas looking immaculate and well maintained for weddings, events and visitors.

The role combines regular garden maintenance — lawns, edging, weeding, pruning, hedge trimming and general garden care — with a wide range of caretaker and handyman jobs around the properties. This could include minor repairs, checking lighting and drainage, cleaning gutters, water blasting, maintaining paths and carparks, and spotting things that need attention before they become bigger problems.

We’re looking for someone with:

• Strong handyman and general property maintenance skills
• Good gardening experience in a large garden or grounds setting
• Good time management
• Confidence using garden tools, power tools and maintenance equipment
• Plenty of practical common sense and problem-solving ability
• A strong eye for presentation and pride in doing things properly
• Good physical fitness
• Experience maintaining commercial properties, venues, schools, accommodation properties, lifestyle blocks or extensive private grounds would be particularly useful.

You’ll be our sole Caretaker-Gardener, but part of a friendly wider team across both venues.
