Job description

Forest & Bird is New Zealand’s leading independent conservation incorporated society. For over 100 years, we have been advocating and speaking out for nature, as well as coordinating community-based projects throughout Aotearoa New Zealand.

We are looking for a practical, service-focused and organised Business Services Technology Specialist to provide internal technology support, coordination and leadership across Forest & Bird.

This is a new role in our Business Services team and will play an important part in improving how staff and volunteers use technology across the organisation. You will be the key internal point of contact for IT support, systems administration, technology advice, direct coaching to staff, IT supplier relationship lead and small-scale technology improvement projects.

We are looking for someone who brings:

Experience supporting internal IT, business systems and applications in a service-focused environment.

A practical ability to understand, support and improve key organisational technology platforms, including IT systems, websites, and ERP/ERM systems.

Strong service focus, with the ability to support staff and volunteers, triage issues, resolve routine requests and coordinate escalation with external IT providers.

Confidence supporting Microsoft 365, user administration, system access, onboarding and offboarding processes.

Good understanding of hardware, software, licensing, asset management and supplier coordination.

Excellent organisation, communication and documentation skills, including the ability to explain technology clearly and coach non-technical users.

An understanding of cyber security basics and technology risk, with the ability to support good practices and help reduce risk across people, systems and suppliers.

A proactive, practical approach to improving systems, processes and the overall user experience.

A genuine interest in conservation, and an understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and Te Ao Māori, or a willingness to grow your capability in these areas.

Qualifications, Knowledge and Skills Required

At least five years’ experience in IT coordination, service delivery, systems administration or technology support, ideally in a medium-sized or larger organisation.

Strong working knowledge of Microsoft 365, CRMs, business systems, user administration, software licensing and technology asset management.

Good understanding of cyber security, infrastructure, business continuity and technology risk, with the ability to promote safe technology practices.

Experience coordinating outsourced IT providers, software vendors and technology suppliers to deliver reliable, responsive support.

Strong analytical, troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify practical improvements and translate business needs into effective technology solutions.

Experience supporting or leading small to mid-sized technology projects, including planning, testing, training, adoption and stakeholder engagement.

Excellent communication and relationship management skills, including the ability to explain technical matters clearly to non-technical audiences.

A tertiary qualification, or equivalent experience, in information technology, systems administration, business analysis, service management or a related discipline.

This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys being hands-on, solving problems, supporting people, and helping an organisation make better use of its technology. You will be part of a purpose-led team where your work will directly support staff and volunteers to deliver better outcomes for nature.

The closing date for applications is28th September 2026.

We reserve the right to start interviewing candidates and make an appointment if we find the right candidate before the closing date.

We will only accept applications from candidates who have the right to work in New Zealand.
