Job summary

Quasar Systems Limited in Christchurch is expanding into Building Management Systems and seeks a senior BMS expert to join our Sales & Marketing team. You will be the in‑house knowledge leader, shaping BMS practices, and mentoring engineers, delivery and sales staff.

This hands-on, individual-contributor role requires 8–10+ years in BMS design, delivery, commissioning or support, deep industry knowledge, and the ability to communicate clearly with technical and non-technical colleagues.

Qualifications

We are expanding our offering from Energy Management Systems (EMS) into Building Management Systems (BMS), delivering intelligent building performance, control and analytics solutions. It’s a genuinely exciting time to join us – and this newly created role is central to building that capability.

The role:

This isn’t a sales role – it’s about knowledge. We’re looking for a seasoned BMS professional to come into the business and help us grow our own BMS capability. You’ll be our in‑house expert: sharing what you know, lifting the skills of our engineering, delivery and sales people, and helping us establish sound BMS practices as we build this part of the business.

Day to day, you will:

• Act as our go‑to BMS expert, sharing your industry knowledge right across the team.
• Coach and mentor our engineers, delivery and sales staff to build real BMS capability.
• Help establish BMS technical standards, processes and best practice.
• Provide expert guidance on BMS design, integration, configuration and commissioning.
• Support our sales team with your industry expertise – lending technical credibility and helping shape sound solutions.
• Keep us current on BMS technology, standards and market trends.

This is a hands‑on, senior individual‑contributor role. You won’t manage a team – instead, you’ll bring deep BMS know‑how and a genuine desire to develop the people around you. You’ll sit within our Sales & Marketing team and report to our Head of Sales & Marketing.

Because we’re building this capability from the ground up, the role is likely to evolve. Early on it will be broad and varied – you’ll turn your hand to whatever the business needs – and as we grow the team and bring in more specialists, it will become more focused. We are seeking:

Someone with genuine, hands‑on experience in Building Management Systems – this is the one thing we can’t compromise on. You’ll likely bring 8–10+ years across BMS design, delivery, commissioning or support, and know the industry and the technology inside out.

You will also have:

• A real depth of BMS industry knowledge – and a genuine enjoyment of sharing it and developing others.
• Familiarity with the Schneider Electric ecosystem (e.g. EcoStruxure Building) – a real advantage.
• The flexibility and self‑motivation to thrive in a broad, evolving role within a small, growing team.
• A collaborative style, comfortable influencing and guiding without direct authority.
• An excellent command of verbal and written English and the ability to communicate with technical and non‑technical people alike.
• A relevant tertiary or industry qualification is preferred, but your experience matters most.
