Job summary

MBIE is seeking a Bond Advisor to support assurance, performance monitoring, and machinery of government responsibilities for the tenancy bond system in New Zealand. The role sits in a newly established team providing business ownership for the Tenancy Bond system, aligned with the Building and Tenancy group to ensure regulatory compliance and improved customer experience.

You will work with the Principal Advisor Bond to deliver responses under OIA, handle complaints and ministerial requests,

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate official information requests, complaints, ministerial requests and customer feedback.
  • Monitor shared inbox, respond to requests, elevate issues and gather information for insights.
  • Identify risks and opportunities to support backlog prioritisation and system enhancements.
  • Support the Director in identifying priorities for the system backlog.

Job description

  • Salary range: $75,114-$88,266 + KiwiSaver + Wellness Benefits

We’re looking for an experienced and capable Bond Advisor to support the delivery of assurance, performance monitoring, and machinery of government responsibilities within the tenancy bond system.

You will join a newly established team that performs the Business Owner function for the Tenancy Bond system. The team supports the MBIE’s Building and Tenancy group to meet its regulatory stewardship and machinery of government responsibilities, while advising MBIE leaders on the Tenancy Bond system enhancements that will deliver system reliability, compliance with legislative and regulatory requirements, and better customer experience.

Working closely with the Principal Advisor Bond, you will coordinate and contribute to the delivery of key activities, such as Official Information Act responses, complaints, Ministerial requests, and customer feedback. You will also monitor the team’s shared inbox, assess and respond to requests, elevate issues, and gather information to support timely insights and advice.

You will also support the Director Business Systems and Change to identify risks, opportunities and potential priorities for the system enhancement backlog, using a variety of information sources, reports and insights.

Skills and Experience Required
  • Strong relationship management and communication skills, with the ability to build trust and credibility with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Willingness to work in a dynamic environment, to help shape and embed a newly established function, and developing the confidence of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Sound judgement, integrity and experience handling sensitive and confidential information.
  • Able to quickly understand unfamiliar or complex issues and translate them into clear advice or action.
  • Strong analytical skills, including the ability to seek, evaluate and synthesise data, customer feedback, risks, and opportunities. Anticipating areas of potential risk and opportunity to inform decision‑making.
  • Effective planning, prioritisation, problem‑solving, and attention to detail in a fast‑moving environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence across different levels.
  • Experience with process documentation, methodologies and case management systems.
  • The adaptability and initiative to help shape and embed a newly established function.
  • Knowledge of the tenancy regulatory system and tenancy law is advantageous.
  • Must have the legal right to live and work in New Zealand.
