Job summary

Sofitel Auckland Viaduct Harbour seeks a passionate barista to deliver exceptional coffee and beverage service in a luxury five-star environment. You will open and close the outlet, maintain spotless standards, and help guests feel valued with personalised recommendations and attentive service.

With at least one year in a luxury hotel and coffee expertise, you will train and coach trainees, manage stock, and contribute to seasonal specials while upholding Sofitel brand standards and a warm,

Qualifications

• At least 1 year experience in a luxury 5 star hotel.
• Previous experience in luxury banqueting service is not applicable here.
• Previous experience in Barista and Café style service is required.
• Knowledge on gastronomy and beverages is desirable.

• Train, coach, and support trainees and team members in barista techniques, coffee preparation, customer service, and operational standards.

Job Description

• Deliver exceptional food and beverage service while ensuring a welcoming and memorable guest experience in line with Sofitel standards.
• Prepare and serve a variety of high-quality coffee beverages, maintaining consistency in presentation, taste, and quality.
• Open and close the outlet in accordance with operational procedures and company standards.
• Maintain a clean, organised, and hygienic work environment, ensuring compliance with food safety and quality assurance requirements.
• Accurately take guest orders, provide menu recommendations, and maximise sales opportunities through effective product knowledge and suggestive selling.
• Ensure food and beverages are delivered promptly and professionally, maintaining correct temperature, presentation, and service standards.
• Maintain detailed knowledge of all menu offerings, including coffee varieties, preparation methods, and beverage customisation options.
• Monitor and manage stock levels, including coffee beans, milk, syrups, and other supplies, assisting with restocking and stocktake processes as required.
• Train, coach, and support trainees and team members in barista techniques, coffee preparation, customer service, and operational standards.
• Handle guest enquiries and telephone calls professionally, providing accurate information and promoting available products and services.
• Adhere to all hotel policies, procedures, and Sofitel brand standards while contributing to a positive team culture.
• Undertake any other reasonable duties within the scope of the role as directed by the Supervisor or Hotel Management.

Qualifications

• At least 1 year experience in a luxury 5 star hotel
• Previous experience in luxury banqueting service
• Previous experience in Barista and Café style service
• Knowledge on gastronomy and beverages
• Use of Micros is a bonus
• Strong presentation and organisation skills
• Ability to work in the fast paced environment and be proactive
• Previous hotel or administration experience
• Positive bubbly personality
