Job description

Automation Engineer (Intermediate to Senior)

Auckland

$90k-$140k + paid overtime + HI + talk to me to find out

A systems integrator with real sector variety and sensible site travel. Process control experience ideal. Based in Auckland.

  • Work across Dairy, Food & Bev, Water, Energy and more, not just one sector
  • Sensible travel, up to a month a year spread across multiple trips
  • Stable, well-established integrator with a full and varied order book

If you're an Industrial Automation Engineer doing the same projects on repeat and want more variety, this is for you.

You'll work across a wide range of sectors, from dairy and food and beverage to water and wastewater, energy and renewables, aquaculture and infrastructure. And if a particular industry interests you, or you want to steer your career in a certain direction, they'll try to make that happen rather than keep you in one lane.

The other thing engineers always ask about is travel. Here you'll head to site for commissioning, but the longest you'd be away in one go is 2 to 3 weeks. Across a full year, it usually adds up to 4 weeks. You won't be living out of a suitcase for months on end.

Why you'll love this

  • The industry sector variety. Few integrators work across this many industries, so you'll keep learning new processes and control systems instead of running the same plant or similar projects over and over.
  • Travel that respects your life. Short site stints, and sensible yearly totals.
  • Stability: this is a well-established business with a full and varied order book at a time when some integrators are struggling. As you build experience, there's room to step up and take ownership of projects, and there's a secret carrot there if you do. Talk to me to find out more!

What you'll do

  • Take industrial processes and machinery and turn them into well-structured PLC, HMI and SCADA code
  • Work on projects from design through to site commissioning
  • Move across different sectors and project types, so every job is different
  • Build your process control experience with senior engineers around you

What you'll need

  • Intermediate to Senior-level Industrial Automation Engineering experience
  • Process control experience
  • A background in process-heavy industries such as dairy, food and beverage, water or chemical
  • Experience programming PLC and SCADA systems on the major platforms like Rockwell, Schneider etc.
  • You're open to site travel, including the occasional 2 to 3 week stint

Other things worth knowing

  • Overtime is paid for planned, pre-approved hours beyond 40 a week
  • You will work across different client industry sectors
  • The chance to step up, lead projects and grow into more senior work

About the company

This is a New Zealand owned systems integrator with offices in Hamilton and Auckland, and a team that works across an unusually wide range of industries. Where a lot of integrators specialise in one or two sectors, this business spans dairy, food and beverage, water, energy, infrastructure and more.

That breadth is a big part of why it's a stable place to work. The order book is full and varied, and the work isn't tied to the ups and downs of any single industry.

It's also a team of self-starters, people who take real ownership of their work and understand what makes the business tick, rather than just clocking in and out.
