Job summary

Monkeytoe is seeking an Assistant Accountant to join its Christchurch finance team. This entry- to early-career role will suit graduates or switchers looking to broaden experience in accounts receivable and general accounting. Reporting to the Financial Controller, you’ll own AR initially and support the wider finance function.

You’ll engage with customers, learn multiple finance systems, and develop core accounting skills while contributing to a collaborative, growing business environment.

Responsibilities

• Manage Accounts Receivable and follow up overdue accounts.
• Contact customers by phone and email regarding outstanding payments.
• Monitor aged receivables ledger and prioritise collection activity.
• Resolve account queries, discrepancies and payment disputes.
• Allocate and receipting of customer payments.
• Complete daily bank reconciliations.
• Maintain accurate customer and financial records.
• Work across various finance systems.
• Support general accounting and finance administration.

Assistant Accountant - Christchurch | Permanent

Monkeytoe is looking for a bright, capable and confident Assistant Accountant to join its Christchurch finance team. This role could suit an accounting or finance graduate, an early-career accountant, or a switched-on accounts administrator keen to broaden their experience.

Reporting to the Financial Controller, you’ll initially take ownership of Accounts Receivable while supporting the wider finance team.

What you’ll be doing

• Managing Accounts Receivable and following up overdue accounts
• Contacting customers by phone and email regarding outstanding payments
• Monitoring the aged receivables ledger and prioritising collection activity
• Resolving account queries, discrepancies and payment disputes
• Allocating and receipting customer payments
• Completing daily bank reconciliations
• Maintaining accurate customer and financial records
• Working confidently across a variety of finance systems
• Supporting general accounting and finance administration

About You

You’ll be comfortable picking up the phone and professionally navigating conversations about overdue payments. You’ll also bring:

• Confidence using a range of finance systems and the ability to learn new technology with ease
• Strong numerical ability and attention to detail
• Clear and professional communication skills
• Good organisation and the ability to manage competing priorities
• Initiative and a willingness to take ownership

Previous accounts or Accounts Receivable experience would be helpful but is not essential. A qualification in accounting, finance, business or a related field would also be advantageous. Most importantly, you’ll bring the right attitude, capability and motivation to learn.
