Job summary

Downer Underground Service Locators (USL) in Auckland seeks a Trainee Utility Locator to learn mapping and marking of underground services, assisting with protecting critical infrastructure. You will work with experienced locators, using GPS/GNSS and GIS tools to capture data and mark utilities before works begin.

This full-time, permanent role offers 40 hours per week with overtime and allowances. A NZ driver’s license is required, and a keen interest in technology, mapping or infrastructure

Qualifications

• NZ driver's licence required.
• Interest in technology, mapping, or infrastructure.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying terrain and weather.
• Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
• Good communication and ability to work independently and in a team.
• Physical fitness to work on active sites and around trenches.

Responsibilities

• Identify, map and mark underground services before construction or maintenance work begins.
• Learn to use GPS/GNSS and GIS technology to capture and analyse underground network data.
• Use locating equipment to accurately identify buried utilities.
• Work outdoors across diverse sites to ensure safety and accuracy.
• Collaborate with team members to complete assignments efficiently.
