Job summary

The Higgins team in Auckland is seeking a Plant Operator to join our Silverdale asphalt batch plant. You’ll be part of a small, close-knit team responsible for manufacturing and supplying asphalt mix to both internal and external customers.

We offer a permanent full-time role, with 40–55 hours per week and a competitive hourly rate between NZ$31 and NZ$40. Class 1 licence (WTR) is required, with Class 2 preferred; we support you to gain additional licenses and safety training.

Qualifications

• 2+ years’ experience operating asphalt batch plants with troubleshooting.
• Understanding of materials, tools and methods used in asphalt production.
• Willingness to work day and night shifts on a rotating roster.
• Class 1 licence (WTR) or overseas equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Operate the asphalt batch plant and monitor production quality.
• Perform basic mechanical maintenance and troubleshooting as needed.
• Adhere to health and safety requirements and site procedures.
• Collaborate with the team to meet internal and external customer needs.

What You'll Bring

• 2 + years experience operating asphalt batch plants, including troubleshooting and basic mechanical maintenance
• Strong understanding of materials, tools, and methods used in asphalt production
• Flexibility to work day and night shifts on a rotating roster
• Class 1 licence (WTR) or overseas essential
• Class 2 preferred – we’ll support you to gain this
• Familiarity with handling bitumen; D & F endorsements beneficial
• Good verbal and written communication skills
• Basic computer skills
• Proven commitment to health and safety
