Job summary

Remarkable People in Timaru is hiring a Skilled Asphalt Leading Hand for a full-time, temporary role with immediate start, with potential to go permanent for the right candidate. You’ll join a proactive civil works crew, operate today’s cutting-edge machinery, and contribute to smooth roads and reliable repairs.

You’ll support the Foreman, help coordinate site activities as the 2IC, perform hands-on asphalt laying, plant operation, and safe site setup. The role may include day and night shifts.

Qualifications

• Solid hands-on experience in asphalt operations.
• Experience as a leading hand or senior crew role.
• Current Class 2 licence with WTR endorsements.
• Understanding of traffic management; STMS Level 1 and First Aid desirable.
• Safety-focused, reliable and able to deliver quality work.
• Able to pass a pre-employment drug test.

Responsibilities

• Support the Foreman with daily workflow and coordinate site activities as the 2IC.
• Hands-on asphalt laying, plant operation, labouring tasks and safe site set-up.
• Step into the Foreman’s role when needed to keep work on track and high quality.
• Carry out pre-starts, risk planning, equipment checks and safe-day operations.

• Current Class 2 licence minimum, with WTR endorsements.
• A strong understanding of traffic management requirements on site; STMS Level 1 and First Aid are desirable.
• A practical, reliable, safety-focused approach, with the mindset to work hard, think ahead, support the team, and deliver quality work.
• Able to pass a pre employment drug test
