Job summary

Fulton Hogan Ltd in Palmerston North is seeking an Asphalt Laboratory Technician to support sampling and testing of asphalt and pavement materials. This hands-on role requires a practical mindset, safety focus, and accuracy to deliver high-quality results.

You will work with a flat, friendly team, maintain lab equipment, follow ISO17025 practices, and contribute ideas to improve testing methods while building your knowledge in pavement products. A full Class 1 driver license is required.

Qualifications

• Experience in civil or asphalt materials testing, or strong technical capability with a willingness to learn.
• Good planning, self-management, and computer skills, including Microsoft Office.
• An understanding of quality assurance, with ISO17025 knowledge preferred.
• A Full Class 1 driver licence and the ability to carry out the inherent requirements of the role, including some lifting within safe limits.

Responsibilities

• Collect samples and complete asphalt and materials testing in line with required specifications and Fulton Hogan lab IANZ requirements.
• Maintain equipment checks and calibration so the laboratory runs safely, accurately, and efficiently.
• Analyse results and provide clear reporting for relevant focus areas and clients.
• Follow all safety, environmental, and quality processes, and speak up when something is not right.
• Stay up to date with pavement design, pavement delivery, and pavement product technologies, while contributing ideas to improve the way we work.
