Job summary

MIMICO in New Zealand offers an apprenticeship path for a Heavy Equipment Service Technician focusing on material processing equipment. You will work with experienced technicians on crushers, screens, feeders, conveyors, and power units while gaining practical, hands-on skills and OEM procedures knowledge.

Ideal candidates have some mechanical exposure, a proactive attitude, and are eligible for an industry apprenticeship.

Qualifications

• Interest in heavy equipment or plant machinery.
• Some mechanical experience through work, study, or personal projects.
• Eligibility to undertake an industry apprenticeship in a mechanical trade.
• NZ Restricted Driver Licence (or working towards).

Responsibilities

• Assisting with servicing, maintenance, and repair of material processing equipment
• Supporting fault-finding and diagnostics across mechanical, hydraulic, and basic electrical systems
• Completing equipment inspections and documenting findings
• Assisting with component replacements, repairs, and equipment commissioning
• Learning and following OEM service procedures and quality standards
• Maintaining accurate service reports, job documentation, and time records
• Working safely and actively contributing to MIMICO's strong health and safety culture
• Building technical knowledge through apprenticeship training, mentoring, and OEM learning programmes

Apprentice Heavy Equipment Service Technician (Material Processing)

Working alongside experienced technicians and industry experts, you'll develop practical skills while completing your industry apprenticeship. You'll gain exposure to a wide range of equipment and technologies, including crushers, screens, feeders, conveyors, and power units.

Key responsibilities

• Assisting with servicing, maintenance, and repair of material processing equipment

About you

• An interest in heavy equipment, mechanical systems, or plant machinery
• Some mechanical experience, either through work, study, or personal projects
• Eligibility to undertake an industry apprenticeship in a mechanical, heavy automotive, or plant equipment trade
• A minimum NZ Restricted Driver Licence (or working towards obtaining one)
• Strong communication skills and a customer-focused approach
• The ability to work both independently and as part of a team
• A positive attitude, strong work ethic, and willingness to learn
• The legal right to work in New Zealand
• Availability to commence an apprenticeship in early 2027
• Willingness to participate in a short period of unpaid workplace experience as part of the recruitment process
