Job summary

The University of Waikato is seeking an Analytics Engineer to build our new Databricks-based data platform and shape enterprise analytics. You will turn source data into trusted, well-modelled datasets and develop governed measures for BI tools like Power BI and Genie.

Work with stakeholders across the University to define data definitions, migrate reporting from the legacy warehouse, and establish modern analytics engineering practices, including AI-assisted workflows.

Qualifications

• At least three years' experience in analytics engineering, BI, data modelling or a related data role.
• Strong SQL skills and dimensional modelling knowledge.
• Experience building semantic models in Power BI.
• Experience with DataOps practices (version control and promotion of code).
• Strong requirements gathering and stakeholder engagement.
• Openness to AI-assisted development tools.
• Nice to have Databricks, Snowflake, Python, data governance or AI-enabled BI tools.

Responsibilities

• Build trusted data on our new Databricks platform and shape enterprise analytics.
• Develop the governed semantic layer and business context behind Power BI and Genie analytics.
• Migrate reporting and datasets from legacy data warehouse to the modern platform.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to define entities, measures and business terms.
• Ensure data is tested, documented and trusted for reporting and AI-enabled insights.
