Job summary

Southern Cross Christchurch Hospital, part of Southern Cross Healthcare, is seeking an Anaesthetic Technician or Registered Nurse Anaesthetic Assistant to join our Theatre team on a full-time, 12-month fixed-term contract covering parental leave. The role supports anaesthetists across a busy perioperative pathway and helps deliver safe, high-quality patient care in a modern surgical setting.

Qualifications

  • Current NZ registration as an Anaesthetic Technician, or Registered Nurse with anaesthetic credentials.
  • Strong clinical knowledge and commitment to delivering safe, high-quality patient care.
  • Excellent communication and the ability to build positive relationships with patients, whānau, and colleagues.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
  • Sound clinical judgement and willingness to learn in a perioperative environment.
  • Commitment to cultural safety, quality improvement, and maintaining high professional standards.
  • Proactive learning and professional development.
  • Flexibility to work rostered shifts.
  • Experience in perioperative/healthcare advantageous but not essential.
  • Experience in private healthcare beneficial but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Work across a variety of surgical specialties providing clinical and technical support to anaesthetists.
  • Assist in preparing specialised equipment and perioperative patient care.
  • Support patients through the perioperative journey as part of a busy, collaborative team.

Southern Cross Christchurch Hospital

Southern Cross Christchurch Hospital is the largest hospital within Southern Cross Healthcare’s national network and easily accessed within central Christchurch. The hospital consists of ten digital operating theatres and features robotic technology with a highly experienced robotic team, advanced digital scanning technologies, and consulting facilities onsite.

The hospital provides a first‑class preadmission service, admissions services, day surgery and three inpatient wards including a high dependency area. The hospital offers a wide range of elective surgical services including Orthopaedic, Gynaecology, Ophthalmology, Oral and Facial Maxillary, Urology, Otolaryngology (ENT), Plastic & Reconstructive, Bariatric, General, and Endoscopic surgery. The hospital employs over 350 highly skilled and trained staff to ensure patients receive high-quality care.

We're looking for an Anaesthetic Technician or Registered Nurse Anaesthetic Assistant (RNAA) to join our Theatre team at Southern Cross Christchurch Hospital on a full-time, 12-month fixed-term contract covering parental leave.

Working across a variety of surgical specialties, you'll provide clinical and technical support to our Anaesthetists and play an important role in delivering safe, high‑quality patient care. From preparing specialised equipment to supporting patients through their perioperative journey, you'll be part of a busy, collaborative team committed to clinical excellence.

  • Current NZ registration as an Anaesthetic Technician, or Registered Nurse with a current practising certificate and anaesthetic credentials
  • Strong clinical knowledge and a commitment to delivering safe, high-quality patient care
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with patients, whānau, and colleagues
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team
  • Sound clinical judgement and a willingness to learn and develop within a perioperative environment
  • A commitment to cultural safety, quality improvement, and maintaining high professional standards
  • A proactive approach to learning, professional development, and evidence-based practice
  • Flexibility to work rostered shifts as required
  • Experience within a perioperative or healthcare environment would be advantageous but is not essential
  • Experience working in a private healthcare setting would be beneficial but is not required
