Job summary

Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora - Southern invites applications for a Physiotherapy Assistant in the Outpatient Orthopaedic Rehabilitation team at Burwood Campus, Christchurch. The role supports Physiotherapists in delivering treatment and rehabilitation in a hospital setting, including Hydrotherapy, until 11 December 2026.

The successful candidate will have 5+ years orthopaedic physiotherapy experience, CPR, a NZ driver’s licence, and a strong commitment to patient care and teamwork.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of Orthopaedic Physiotherapy/Assistant experience.
• Current CPR certification.
• NZ driving licence with manual car experience preferred.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a hospital setting.

Responsibilities

• Assist Physiotherapist colleagues in outpatient treatment plans.
• Monitor and supervise Hydrotherapy Programmes.
• Prepare equipment for sessions and manage supplies.
• Perform light administrative tasks and charting.
• Work across inpatient wards as required.

About the Role

Our Outpatient Orthopaedic Rehabilitation team are seeking a Physiotherapy Assistantwith previous experience in a hospital inpatient setting to join us at theBurwood Campus as part of our wider Older Person's Health and RehabilitationService. This is an exciting opportunity to refine your skills as an AlliedHealth Assistant and develop your career in healthcare!

Thisis a fixed term, full-time (40hr per week) opportunity until 11th December 2026. The days and hoursrequired are Monday and Friday, 0800-1630.

Inthis role, you will be responsible for:

• Assisting yourPhysiotherapist colleagues in delivering treatment and rehabilitationplans in a rehabilitation outpatient setting
• Previous experience monitoring and supervising HydrotherapyProgrammes
• Current CPR certificate
• Advanced competency indelivering exercise programmes while working independent
• Strong verbal and computerliteracy
• Strong clinical assessmentskills within your scope of practice for a Physiotherapy Assistant
• The setting out of equipmentin preparation for physiotherapy sessions or meetings as required;
• The maintenance andmonitoring of supplies and equipment within the department.
• Some administrative tasks including filing and processing clinicalfiles
• Working in an inpatient setting as required

About You

Yourskills will include:

• Youshould hold a suitable rehabilitation or exercise qualification
• Astrong desire to be part of a team and an eagerness to be your best;
• NZ driving licence isessential and experience in a manual car is an advantage.
• Minimum of 5 yearsOrthopaedic Physiotherapy/ Assistant experience and you have a provenrecord in providing clinical care under the supervision of aPhysiotherapist.
• Dedication to continuedlearning and striving for the best patient outcomes;
• Strong communication andinterpersonal skills as well as the ability to follow direction;
• Flexibility with the abilityto work in a variety of ward areas with different teams from day to day;
• Previous experience in asimilar therapy assistant role with a good understanding of health isessential.
• Comfortable in a water environment
