Job summary

The Civil Aviation Authority New Zealand – Wellington, on the North Island, is seeking an Advisor, Digital Channels to help bring strategy to life through clear and audience-focused communications across digital, social, video, visual and traditional channels.

You’ll support day-to-day planning, scheduling, publishing and updating content across CAA’s channels, including social media, website, intranet, newsletters, video, executive communications and events.

Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline or 1–2 years’ related experience
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with strong attention to detail

Responsibilities

About the Role

As Advisor, Digital Channels, you’ll play a hands‑on role in helping CAA bring its strategy, priorities and stakeholder engagement work to life through clear, creative and audience‑focused communications across digital, social, video, visual and traditional channels.

You’ll work alongside experienced communications advisors and leaders to support day‑to‑day planning, scheduling, publishing and updating of content across CAA’s channels, including social media, website, intranet, newsletters, video, executive communications and events.

We’re especially interested in someone who is confident with digital tools and loves creating content: filming and editing short‑form video, producing strong social content, designing visual material and finding smarter ways to reach audiences. Just as important, you’ll be curious and quick to learn.

Key Accountabilities

  • Support the delivery of CAA’s communications plan, helping create clear, engaging internal and external communications that connect audiences with CAA’s strategy, purpose, work and impact
  • Support day‑to‑day planning, scheduling, publishing and updating of content across CAA’s digital and communications channels, including social media, website, intranet, newsletters, video, executive communications, campaigns and events
  • Create video, photography, design and other digital content, bringing fresh ideas about formats and platforms that increase reach, engagement and understanding
  • Works across teams to ensure digital channels provide a consistent and accessible user experience for CAA’s participants and stakeholders
  • Monitor digital channel performance and audience engagement, using insights to recommend practical improvements to content, format, timing and channel use
  • Publish web content and review websites to help keep them consistent with best practice, including UX, IA, SEO, modern web standards
  • Create content that is accurate, accessible, plain‑language, audience‑focused and aligned with CAA’s brand, tone of voice, style and approval processes
  • Identify potential reputational, privacy, security or accuracy risks in digital content and elevate issues appropriately before publication
  • Work with senior leaders and internal stakeholders to understand objectives, risks and opportunities, and support practical communications planning and delivery

The salary band for this role is $83,600 – $102,302. Starting salaries are based on knowledge, skills and experience the successful candidate brings to the role, as well as internal relativities.

What You'll Bring

You might be a recent graduate with a strong portfolio, or already have a year or two of experience in communications, marketing, journalism, digital media, content creation or a related field.

You will enjoy working in a fast‑paced environment and delivering practical, high‑quality communications outcomes.

You will be confident working with a range of stakeholders, able to translate complex information into accessible messages, and enthusiastic about contributing to a collaborative team.

To succeed in this role you’ll demonstrate:

  • A tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline, such as communications, marketing or journalism, and/or 1–2 years’ experience in a similar or related field
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with strong attention to detail
  • Robust problem‑solving skills and the ability to positively influence stakeholders
  • Confidence developing accurate, accessible and plain‑language content for a variety of audiences and channels
  • Audiovisual and design skills and experience, especially turning complex information into clear diagrams, charts, presentations and visual content
  • Experience with photography, audio, analytics, content management systems or other digital tools
  • Knowledge of, and curiosity about, best‑practice engagement and communications approaches and methods
  • A collaborative approach, adaptability, resilience and a commitment to continuous learning.

Aviation experience is not required. Curiosity, agility, and an interest in understanding how a regulator works is.
