Job summary

Bioeconomy Science Institute Maiangi Taiao in Rotorua, New Zealand, invites a Network Engineer to join Data and Digital. You will support reliable, secure network infrastructure, collaborate across teams, and help ensure connectivity and systems perform at their best.

The role requires a tertiary IT/Networking qualification or equivalent, and desirable industry certifications (Cisco, Fortinet, Aruba, Juniper, Azure or AWS).

Qualifications

• Tertiary IT/CS/Networking qualification or equivalent industry experience.
• Certifications such as Cisco CCNA/CCNP, Fortinet, Aruba, Juniper, Microsoft, Azure or AWS are desirable.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Experience troubleshooting infrastructure and network issues using a structured, methodical approach.

Responsibilities

• Support, maintain and troubleshoot the Institute's network infrastructure (LAN, WAN, NAC, wireless, firewalls, internet connectivity, remote access).
• Implement infrastructure changes per approved designs, security standards and change processes.
• Monitor performance, availability and security; resolve issues and escalate as needed.
• Contribute to broader infrastructure support (Windows, Linux, cloud, virtualization, storage) as required.

As a Network Engineer, you will play a key role in supporting the reliable, secure, and efficient operation of the Institute's network infrastructure. Working closely with teams and leaders across the organisation, you'll help ensure our connectivity and systems perform at their best, enabling our people to succeed.

You will be a confident communicator, able to build strong relationships and work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders. We're looking for someone with proven experience in troubleshooting network and infrastructure issues, using a structured, analytical, and methodical approach to identify and resolve problems.

What you will be doing | Ngā whāinga matua

• Support, maintain and troubleshoot BSI's network infrastructure, including LAN, WAN, NAC, wireless, firewalls, internet connectivity and remote access.
• Implement infrastructure changes in accordance with approved designs, security standards and change management processes.
• Monitor infrastructure performance, availability and security, resolving issues and escalating where appropriate.
• Contribute to broader infrastructure support, including Windows, Linux, cloud, virtualisation and storage technologies as required.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

• A tertiary qualification in Information Technology, Computer Science, Networking or a related discipline, or equivalent industry experience.
• Relevant industry certifications such as Cisco (CCNA/CCNP), Fortinet, Aruba, Juniper Microsoft, Azure, AWS or equivalent are desirable.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Experience troubleshooting infrastructure and network issues using a structured and methodical approach.
