Job description

About the role

StormGeo Energy Analytics is a growing part of StormGeo, developing analytical services for European energy and power markets. We combine weather intelligence, market understanding, technology and quantitative insight to help customers make better-informed decisions in changing and complex environments.

We are looking for a Senior Weather Data Scientist with a strong foundation in meteorology or atmospheric science and practical data-science skills. This role is particularly well suited to meteorologists and atmospheric scientists who enjoy coding, working with large scientific datasets and bringing rigorous methods into real-world services for energy-market customers across Europe.

Location:

Norway, or other StormGeo locations within Europe. Hybrid or remote.

Main responsibilities

  • Develop weather-informed analytical methods and assess forecast quality, uncertainty and change using ensemble forecasts, reforecasts, reanalysis data and observations.

  • Build robust scientific-data workflows for ingesting, processing, validating and maintaining meteorological information.

  • Contribute to regional weather, seasonal and climate analysis relevant to European energy markets.

  • Use statistical and physical reasoning to assess forecast signals, counterfactual scenarios and uncertainty.

  • Work with meteorologists, energy analysts, data scientists and product teams to turn science into practical services and communicate findings clearly.

What we’re looking for

  • A master's degree or PhD in meteorology, atmospheric science, climate science, applied mathematics or a related discipline, with practical forecasting, modelling or applied-weather experience.

  • Strong knowledge of ensemble numerical weather prediction, uncertainty, reforecasts and probabilistic forecast validation, together with European large-scale circulation.

  • Strong Python, data-science and scientific-data skills, including gridded or geospatial data and tools such as xarray, pandas, NumPy, SciPy, NetCDF or GRIB.

  • The ability to build clear, tested and maintainable analytical code, and explain complex scientific topics to colleagues and customers.

It would be an advantage if you have

  • Experience with European power markets, energy analytics, commodity-weather risk or operational decision support.

  • Experience with ECMWF, seasonal or comparable global ensemble forecast systems, including weather-regime or circulation diagnostics.

  • Experience with climate analysis, seasonal forecasting or long-term climate projections, and an interest in how changing climate conditions influence energy-market fundamentals.

  • Experience with production data platforms, APIs, cloud services, workflow orchestration or translating scientific analysis into client products.
