Shield AI is seeking an experienced state estimation engineer to design, develop, and deploy navigation solutions for aerospace platforms. The role emphasizes EKF-based algorithms, GNSS/INS integration, and multi-sensor fusion in safety-critical environments.

You will lead architecture design, verification planning, and certification-aligned processes while mentoring junior engineers and improving system reliability across implementations.

Qualifications

• 15+ years of experience developing state estimation algorithms for aerospace navigation
• Demonstrated experience implementing GNSS/INS integration solutions
• Experience with safety-critical system development and certification processes
• Deep understanding of state estimation theory
• Experience with multi-sensor fusion in production systems
• Knowledge of IMU error modeling and Allan variance analysis

Responsibilities

• Define navigation performance requirements and error budgets for safety-critical applications
• Decompose navigation requirements into allocations for sensors, estimation algorithms, and software components
• Design software architecture for state estimation implementations with clear interfaces and data flow
• Develop EKF algorithms and GNSS/INS fusion strategies
• Integrate diverse sensing modalities for GPS-degraded environments
• Develop fault detection, isolation, and recovery strategies
• Implement integrity monitoring and protection level calculations
• Develop verification and validation plans and perform Monte Carlo simulations and flight data analysis
• Provide technical leadership and mentor junior engineers
