Job summary

Elastic’s Elasticsearch - Distributed Systems team is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to advance our Serverless Elasticsearch offering. You will tackle deep distributed systems challenges in how nodes communicate, and how data are indexed, allocated, and managed across nodes.

You will own end-to-end features, optimize concurrency and performance across machines, and collaborate with teams to push scalability to new horizons while maintaining safety and reliability.

Qualifications

• Deep background in distributed systems and consensus algorithms.
• Strong Java core skills and knowledge of data structures and concurrency.
• Strong proficiency in algorithms.
• Experience with complex, highly distributed systems and not relying on off-the-shelf services.
• Ability to own projects from design to delivery.
• Experience using AI to accelerate development and debugging.
• Collaborate across functions and teams and adapt to changing priorities.
• Ability to work autonomously in a distributed team.

Responsibilities

• Leverage distributed systems expertise to build core pieces of the Serverless Elasticsearch offering.
• Improve components supporting concurrent, consistent indexing across multiple machines.
• Maintain cluster coordination to keep performance as nodes join/leave and data moves.
• Push the limits on shards, nodes, and petabytes Elasticsearch can handle.
• Investigate performance or concurrency issues and propose solutions.
• Support our engineers with tough problems and incidents.
• Own end-to-end investigations until performance or stability issues are resolved.
