Elastic is seeking a Principal Software Engineer for the Elasticsearch - Distributed Systems team. You will tackle deep distributed challenges to improve scale, performance, and resilience in our Serverless offering.

You will own end-to-end feature development across nodes, data indexing, and cluster coordination while collaborating with multiple teams to ship robust, high‑quality software.

Qualifications

• Deep background in distributed systems and consensus algorithms.
• Strong core Java skills and data-structure knowledge.
• Experience building large-scale distributed systems with multi-machine deployments.
• Ability to own projects end-to-end and lead cross-functional work.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate core pieces of a Serverless Elasticsearch offering.
• Improve components for concurrent and consistent indexing across machines.
• Maintain cluster coordination as nodes join/leave and data moves.
• Push limits on shards, nodes, and petabytes of data.
• Investigate performance and concurrency issues and propose solutions.
• Support engineers with complex problems and own end-to-end investigations.
