Job summary

Cognite is seeking a Principal Engineer to own security-critical backend systems, shaping how our platform is secured and used. You will design authentication and authorization services and scale gRPC/HTTP APIs on Kubernetes.

You will mentor engineers, drive threat modeling and reliability engineering, and collaborate across teams to advance secure-by-default practices in a fast-moving, globally distributed environment.

Qualifications

• Extensive experience building and operating distributed backend services.
• Strong Kotlin expertise with a pragmatic approach to tool choice.
• Deep knowledge of authentication and authorization (OIDC, OAuth2, RBAC/ABAC).
• Hands-on with cloud-native tech, Elasticsearch and cloud platforms (GCP/AWS/Azure).

Responsibilities

• Architect and own security-critical backend services for Cognite platform.
• Design and scale secure APIs and microservices on Kubernetes.
• Drive backend innovation and maintainable codebase.
• Lead threat modeling, performance tuning, reliability engineering.
• Mentor engineers and shape the technical roadmap.
