Job summary

Shield AI is seeking a Senior Staff Aerostructures Design Engineer to own the design and development of high‑performance structural systems for their next‑generation autonomous aircraft. You will lead from concept to production, ensuring structural integrity, manufacturability, and mission readiness across airframe interfaces.

You will collaborate with aerodynamics, propulsion, avionics, and manufacturing teams, perform advanced FEA, and guide material selection and validation testing.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering.
• 10+ years in aircraft structural design with ownership of components or systems.
• Deep understanding of composite and metallic structures and their behaviour.
• Proficient in CAD and FEA tools (NX/CATIA/SolidWorks; ANSYS/Abaqus/NASTRAN).
• Experience with stress, fatigue analysis and design optimization.
• Strong DFMA, GD&T, tolerance stackups, and structural layout knowledge.
• Clear technical communication and leadership across teams.
• Ability to obtain S//SAR level security clearance.

Responsibilities

• Lead design and development of structural components for next‑gen UAV platform.
• Own design lifecycle from concept to drawing release with high traceability.
• Perform and guide linear/nonlinear structural analysis and margin assessments.
• Collaborate with aerodynamics, propulsion, avionics, and manufacturing teams.
• Support material selection focusing on composites and aluminum alloys.
• Lead design reviews and technical decision meetings for structural systems.
• Oversee structural validation testing from coupons to full system.
• Develop design documentation, analyses, and verification plans per MIL-STD/FAA.
• Mentor junior engineers and improve workflows for velocity and quality.
• Coordinate with production and flight test to transition designs to manufacturing.
