Job summary

AutoStore is seeking a Lead Engineer to head a small team of engineers across electronics, firmware, and mechanics, taking technical ownership of key sub-systems from concept through production.

The role combines hands-on technical leadership with people management, planning and coordinating work, and mentoring engineers to support development and delivery across product milestones and production readiness.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of engineering experience in product development, ideally with electronics/firmware and leadership of engineers or technical teams.
• Strong technical understanding across electronics, firmware, and mechanical systems, with ability to review designs and make trade-offs.
• Experience developing physical products for serial or high-volume production from development through industrialisation and production.

Responsibilities

• Take technical ownership of assigned sub-systems, covering solutions, scope, quality, compliance, cost, and delivery from development through to production.
• Lead and coordinate a multidisciplinary engineering team across electronics, firmware, and mechanics, planning resources, prioritising work, reviewing designs, and making trade-offs.
• Work closely with Product, System Architecture, Project Management, Supply Chain, Test, Compliance, and Manufacturing to deliver against milestones.
• Support suppliers and production readiness, driving engineering practices, standardisation, and reuse across development.
• Manage and develop a growing team of engineers, including regular 1:1s, feedback, performance follow-up, mentoring, hiring, and onboarding.
