Job description

Our mission

Aquabyte is on a mission to revolutionize the sustainability and efficiency of aquaculture. By making fish farming more efficient and viable, we aim to promote healthy production of low carbon protein and mitigate one of the biggest causes of climate change. Aquaculture is the single fastest growing food‑production sector in the world, and now is the time to define how technology is used to harvest the sea and preserve it for generations to come.

Our product

We are currently focused on helping salmon farmers better understand their fish population and make environmentally sound decisions. Through custom underwater cameras, computer vision, and machine learning we quantify fish weights, detect the health status, and generate optimal feeding plans in real time. Our product operates at three levels: on‑site hardware for image capture, cloud pipelines for data processing, and a user‑facing web application. As a result, there are hundreds of moving pieces and no shortage of fascinating challenges across all levels of the stack.

Above all, Aquabyte is a customer‑driven company. Our product development is dictated by the needs of fish farmers and we prioritize customer delight in everything we do. We are committed to building a global, collaborative team.

The role

We are looking for a Quality Engineer who will drive quality across our products, suppliers, and manufacturing operations. This role is responsible for developing and maintaining quality systems and processes, leading root cause investigations, supporting production and supplier quality, and ensuring compliance with ISO 9001 standards. The ideal candidate is hands‑on, collaborative, and proactive in identifying quality risks, implementing corrective actions, and partnering with cross‑functional teams and suppliers to continuously improve product quality and manufacturing performance. Occasional travel to supplier and customer sites will be required to support quality initiatives and resolve field issues.

Anticipated start date: September 1, 2026

Responsibilities
  • Develop, implement, and maintain Quality Plans, Inspection and Test Plans, and QA/QC procedures for components and assemblies
  • Ensure that the same processes are implemented across different sites
  • Lead production troubleshooting and failure analysis at the component and system levels for incoming inspection and assembly line issues
  • Lead customer and supplier audits. Conduct internal and external quality audits, surveillance inspections, and compliance reviews
  • Review supplier quality documentation, material testing reports, and corrective action plans
  • Maintain knowledge of and alignment with ISO 9001 standards
  • Coordinate with project teams to identify quality risks and implement corrective/preventive actions (CAPA)
  • Provide quality training, mentoring, and guidance to project personnel and suppliers
  • Apply basic working knowledge of core quality tools such as FMEA, 8D problem‑solving, and CAPA
  • Regularly communicate production and supplier quality performance and report issues as they arise
  • Instill a sense of urgency into all teams for preventing and addressing quality issues
  • Travel offsite as needed to understand and address quality issues as experienced by our customers.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Quality Management or related technical discipline
  • 3-5 years of experience in hardware quality, reliability, or testing (experience in electronics, electrical and mechanical hardware is highly valued)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office/Google Suite, data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI)
  • Fluency in Norwegian and English; Spanish is a plus
  • Strong analytical skills, exceptional attention to detail, and good written and verbal communication abilities.
Benefits
  • Competitive salary and equity
  • Incredibly dynamic office space in the heart of Bergen
  • Free lunch and free snacks
  • Potential travel
  • Evolve in a fast‑paced environment
  • Be able to shape a business in its early days
  • Get ideas, feedback, and suggestions from other best‑in‑their‑field colleagues
