Job summary

The Department of Public Works Careers is seeking a Full-Time Laborer to perform a variety of maintenance and construction tasks under supervision. The role requires physical effort and the ability to operate hand and small power tools to support city infrastructure projects, sidewalks, curbs, and parks.

Responsibilities include assisting with water distribution and sewer system maintenance, street markings, sign installation, grass mowing, tree trimming, snow removal, and general site clean-up.

Qualifications

• Education: Possession of a high school diploma or its equivalent.
• Experience: Entry level; no specific prior experience required.
• Language: Ability to read instructions and write simple correspondence.
• Mathematical: Basic arithmetic for measurements and rates.
• Certificates: Valid Michigan vehicle operator's license or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Perform unskilled to semi-skilled maintenance tasks on streets, curbs, and sidewalks.
• Assist in water distribution, sewer systems, and meter work.
• Install and repair traffic signs and guardrails with tools.
• Mow grass, trim trees, plant and maintain park areas and facilities.
• Plow snow, clear sidewalks, and assist in site clean-up as needed.
• Operate light equipment and perform related duties as assigned.
