This is a hands-on, site-focused role in which you will spend the majority of your time at project and client sites, overseeing installation works, executing testing and commissioning activities, and ensuring a complete, well-documented handover to the client.

You will act as the technical point of contact on-site, working closely with project management teams, panel and installation contractors, and client representatives to ensure protection and control deliverables are completed on schedule and to the required quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

Site Installation and Technical Supervision

  • Follow up on-site installation works for protection, control, and automation systems, ensuring compliance with design documentation, wiring diagrams, and applicable standards.

  • Coordinate with installation contractors, subcontractors, project management teams, and client representatives.

  • Take technical ownership of on-site activities before and during commissioning.

  • Ensure all site activities comply with HSE requirements and site-specific procedures.

Testing and Commissioning

  • Plan and execute Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) and commissioning of protection relays, control and automation systems, and associated secondary equipment.

  • Carry out functional testing, protection relay setting verification, loop checks, and interlocking and logic testing on-site.

  • Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve technical issues arising during installation, testing, and commissioning.

  • Coordinate corrective actions and elevate technical issues when required.

Documentation and Client Handover

  • Prepare and maintain accurate site documentation, including test reports, punch lists, non-conformance reports, and as-built records.

  • Coordinate and lead the client handover process, ensuring documentation, test records, and outstanding items are properly closed out.

  • Provide feedback from site activities to engineering and design teams to support continuous improvement.

Project Coordination and Delivery

  • Coordinate on-site activities with contractors, subcontractors, and client personnel.

  • Proactively identify and report risks or delays related to installation, testing, and commissioning progress.

  • Support project schedules and ensure protection and control deliverables meet the required quality standards.

Required Qualifications and Competencies

Education

  • Relevant professional experience may compensate for formal education.

Professional Experience

  • Solid experience as a Protection and Control Engineer, with a strong track record in site follow-up.

  • Solid experience in testing and commissioning protection and control systems.

  • Experience with both medium-voltage (MV) and high-voltage (HV) systems.

  • Practical, hands-on experience with protection relays and secondary systems from major suppliers such as ABB, Siemens, SEL, and GE.

  • Experience with protection and control systems for transmission infrastructure up to and including 132 kV.

  • Experience coordinating on-site activities with contractors and clients, with the confidence to take technical ownership on-site.

Technical Skills

  • Good understanding of substation protection and control philosophies.

  • Knowledge of protection relay testing, functional testing, and commissioning procedures.

  • Ability to troubleshoot technical issues associated with protection, control, automation, and secondary systems.

  • Strong understanding of site installation requirements and technical documentation.

Interpersonal and Communication Skills

  • Fluent in English, both written and spoken.

  • Willingness and ability to travel extensively, including extended periods on-site, domestically and/or internationally, depending on project requirements.

  • Strong coordination and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to work effectively with project teams, contractors, subcontractors, and client representatives.
