Job summary

Vard Group AS is seeking a Project HSSE Manager for a Trinity House vessels project. You will lead HSSE compliance across engineering, construction, commissioning and trials, coordinating with Trinity House, subcontractors and suppliers.

The role requires ensuring risk controls, audits and performance reporting throughout the 3-year program. The position reports to the Project Manager and HSEQ at Vard Group AS, with travel expectations including an assignment in Romania during hull construction.

Qualifications

  • Relevant higher education in HSE, engineering or environmental management
  • Formal HSSE qualification is an advantage.
  • Relevant experience from shipbuilding or other complex industrial projects.
  • Practical experience with contractor assurance, risk assessment, incident investigation, audits and ISO 45001 / ISO 14001 systems.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the project HSSE focal point and liaison with Trinity House on HSSE matters.
  • Develop, maintain and follow up on the approved Project HSSE Plan, including risk-assessment methods, measurable targets, audits and performance reporting.
  • Ensure hazards are identified, assessed and eliminated where possible, or controlled through formal planning and safe working procedures.
  • Coordinate HSSE requirements across VARD, subcontractors and suppliers, and verify that personnel are competent to perform their tasks safely.
  • Plan and conduct inspections and audits; share results as agreed and follow corrective actions through verified closure.
  • Monitor incidents, near misses, environmental performance and project KPIs; support investigations, root-cause analysis and lessons learned.
  • Coordinate HSSE induction, training, emergency preparedness and controls for high-risk work, commissioning, harbor trials and sea trials.
  • Prepare concise HSSE status reports and support client, internal and third-party reviews.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to apply your expertise, collaborate with skilled colleagues, and contribute to an exciting project across the VARD value chain. The Trinity House newbuild project is a 3-year program for buildingtwo multi-function Buoy and Lighthouse maintenance vessel forthe British maritime safety and welfare organization Trinity House.The role will coordinate and verify project compliance with contractual HSSE requirements, applicable legislation, VARD management-system requirements, and agreed client expectations throughout engineering, construction, commissioning and trials.

The role will report functionally to the Project Manager throughout the lifespan of the project, and report formally to the HSEQ organization at Vard Group AS. The employee will therefor get other roles when the Trinity House project is finished.
