Postdoctoral Fellow in Hydrology and Catchment Biogeochemistry

We are looking for a capable and motivated candidate to investigate the effects of peatland restoration on hydrology and catchment biogeochemistry through field investigations, modelling and data‑driven analyses. The position is for three years, funded by the Research Council of Norway and carried out in partnership with Ca’ Foscari University of Venice, École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne and the Norwegian Institute for Water Research.
Duties of the position
- Carry out high‑quality scientific research on peatland restoration and its impact on hydrology and biogeochemistry.
- Publish research results in high‑impact, peer‑reviewed scientific journals.
- Take responsibility for the field research activities of the project in collaboration with the Principal Investigator.
- Curate the resulting datasets and use them for own research and publications.
- Conduct data‑driven and modelling analyses related to soil saturation, hydrologic response and functioning of peatland headwaters and river catchments.
- Engage in scientific discussions and actively participate in the research group.
- Participate in international activities such as conferences and research stays.
- Contribute to career‑promoting work such as co‑supervision of master and PhD students, research funding management or other academic development activities.
Required selection criteria
- Completed doctoral degree in Hydrology, Geoscience, Civil or Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Geography or a closely related field.
- Documentation of the completed doctorate must be presented before taking up the position.
- Previous research experience in hydrology, catchment biogeochemistry, peatland restoration or related fields.
- Authored peer‑reviewed publications (including those under review or submitted).
- Interest in field‑based research and an affinity for outdoor work.
- Curiosity and an entrepreneurial attitude.
- Fluency in English with good written communication skills.
Preferred selection criteria
- Experience in field‑based scientific research in hydrology or catchment biogeochemistry; or in environmental surveying using unmanned aerial vehicles and data application; or in development and application of analytical and numerical models with excellent programming skills.
- Interest in co‑supervising master and PhD students from the partner institutions.
- Willingness to contribute ideas toward the development of research projects.

Salary and conditions
Gross annual salary of NOK 633,400 (subject to qualifications and seniority); 2 % is deducted for the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund. The employment period is three years, with a start date no later than 1 March 2027. The position is contingent on external funding.
