About The Job

Nordic Semiconductor is looking for a Platform Engineer to help build and scale the nRF Cloud platform. Our platform gives hardware teams the tools to monitor, debug, and update IoT devices in production. Companies like remarkable, Whoop, and Ultrahuman rely on it to keep millions of devices reliable in the field, and the results speak for themselves. Customers have reported stats like 10x reductions in return rates, 90% fewer device resets, and doubled engineering productivity. We're an industry leader in enabling hardware teams to ship with confidence and iterate fast after launch. You will join a team of platform engineers with unique technical breadth and depth, responsible for the core backend platform underpinning nRF Cloud. You will help drive strategic investments across infrastructure, databases, performance, reliability, and security, and ultimately help us scale a successful business.

Key Responsibilities

Own pieces of the platform end-to-end. Design, build, ship, and monitor systems that handle data from millions of IoT devices in production. Start with the simplest solution that works, ship it, and iterate from real data. Dive deep on hard problems with rigor. Instrument systems, experiment, and validate with data when debugging scaling, performance, reliability, or cost issues. Ship production-quality code across the stack (Python, Kotlin, TypeScript, AWS, Kubernetes, PostgreSQL/ClickHouse), holding yourself to the testing and code review discipline this team expects. Leverage AI to assist, but own your work. Own production via on-call. Respond to incidents, identify and resolve root causes, and lead postmortems and follow-ups. But know you’re not alone - you have an incredible team behind you. Champion observability across the organization. Put meaningful metrics, logs, and alerts in place so problems surface before customers feel them. Write clear technical docs and RFCs for the systems you touch, so decisions and tradeoffs are legible to the team. Partner cross-functionally with Product, SDK & Field Engineering, and Support to turn customer and business needs into concrete technical work.

Qualification And Skills

3+ years of software engineering experience Proven ability to ship production code independently. You're comfortable owning a feature or service end-to-end, contributing to architecture decisions, and debugging issues in production. Familiarity with AWS, including services such as EKS, RDS, S3, EC2, ECS, and related tooling. Solid experience with relational databases, especially PostgreSQL, including schema design (multi-tenant systems a plus), query optimization, and operational concerns. Proficiency in backend programming, with a strong preference for Python, Kotlin, and/or TypeScript. Experience with Kubernetes, including deploying, operating, and scaling production workloads. Practical experience with observability and monitoring tooling such as Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, Sentry, or similar, and a track record of improving system reliability. Strong written and verbal communication. We’re a globally distributed team solving mission-critical problems and clear communication makes all the difference. Nice to Have: Background in IoT, developer tools, or embedded systems tooling. Experience with building device telemetry pipelines or working with protocols like MQTT or CoAP. Familiarity with ClickHouse or other columnar/analytical databases for high-volume time-series or event data.

Personal Skills

You're caring, kind, and low-ego. Other people do better work when they work with you. You think about systems, not just tasks. You look upstream to figure out why things aren't working and fix the root cause, not the symptom. You default to clarity. You communicate decisions and tradeoffs so others can act on them, and you're upfront about what you don't know yet. You're a strong communicator. You can explain technical decisions to non-technical stakeholders and hold your own in a room of senior engineers. You're curious about the domain. You want to understand how IoT devices work, what firmware engineers actually need, and how cloud tooling and AI can make hardware product teams fundamentally more effective.
