Job summary

The University of Bergen invites applications for a PhD Research Fellow in atmospheric physics at the Geophysical Institute and the Bjerknes Center for Climate Research in Norway. The fixed-term appointment is for 3 years, with a possible 4th year for teaching duties.

You will contribute to the ERC RAPTURE project, using high-resolution simulations and ML climate emulators to study extreme rainfall and its future changes.

Qualifications

• Master's degree must be completed before start or submitted for assessment.
• Strong mathematical and quantitative skills are required.
• Experience or strong interest in meteorology is an advantage.
• Proficiency in Python is an advantage; geospatial data analysis is an advantage.

Responsibilities

• Develop high-resolution regional climate simulations to study extreme rainfall.
• Investigate causes of spatially localised rainfall extremes and changes in the future.
• Utilise physically-grounded and ML-based climate projections to compare narratives.
• Publish scientific results and present at international workshops and conferences.
