Job summary

University of Agder seeks a PhD Research Fellow in Mechatronics at the Department of Engineering Sciences, Campus Grimstad. The 3-year fixed-term position focuses on learning-based control and robot perception, with opportunities for collaboration with international partners and research visits.

You will contribute to publications, reports and dissemination across Europe, while advancing expertise in control theory, robotics and ML in a dynamic research group.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in mechatronics, control systems, robotics or related field obtained within the last five years.
  • Expertise in advanced control theory, robotics or mechatronics; additional training in machine learning is an advantage.
  • Competence in English is required for all applicants to the PhD program.
  • Experience with research and scientific publications; strong background in control, robotics and machine learning.
  • Personal suitability and teamwork skills emphasized; ability to work independently on goals.

Responsibilities

  • Explore learning-based control, machine learning algorithms and perception methods to improve autonomy, robustness and precision of robotic manipulation.
  • Investigate new algorithms for robust and adaptive manipulation, including learning-based control for robotic systems and advanced visual perception methods.
  • Test and validate methods on real robotic platforms at Motion Lab and pursue research visits to collaborating universities.
  • Prepare and submit research reports, publish high-quality articles and disseminate results at the European level.
