NTNU in Trondheim invites applications for a PhD Candidate in machine learning for materials science. The position combines doctoral studies with hands-on research within the FACET group, collaborating with Norsk Regnesentral.

The candidate will develop and evaluate LLM-assisted methods to extract and interpret materials data, focusing on phase diagrams for inorganic materials. You will perform high-quality research, complete the PhD education, publish results, and participate in NTNU–Norsk

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in materials science, solid-state chemistry, condensed matter physics, or related discipline with 120 credits at master's level.
  • Strong academic record with average grade B or better.
  • Admission to the NV faculty's Doctoral Programme.
  • Experience with Python or computational materials science/chemistry.
  • Good oral and written English.

Responsibilities

  • Perform high-quality research within the scope of the project.
  • Complete the PhD education and training programme.
  • Publish results in internationally recognised journals and conferences.
  • Actively participate in and develop the collaboration between NTNU and Norsk Regnesentral.
  • Contribute to a constructive and inclusive research environment.
