Job summary

Oslo University Hospital's Intervention Centre offers a 3‑year PhD fellowship focused on improving assessment of aortic valve disease and TAVI outcomes. The project combines experimental models, CFD/FSI simulations, and advanced ultrasound techniques across international collaborations, with a strong emphasis on integrating clinical context and engineering methods.

The PhD candidate will work in an interdisciplinary team, develop patient‑specific models, and contribute to a laboratory mock

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Medical Technology, Engineering Cybernetics, Physics, Applied Mathematics, Informatics, or related discipline.
  • Strong academic record (weighted average grade of B or higher).
  • Experience with CFD simulations and possibly FSI modelling is advantageous.
  • Experience with scientific programming (Python, MATLAB, C++ or similar).
  • Excellent written and oral English is required.

Responsibilities

  • Develop 3D printed models of diseased aortic valves and contribute to a laboratory mock circulation platform.
  • Validate CFD and FSI models against experimental measurements.
  • Investigate echocardiographic methods and develop improved diagnostic approaches.
  • Collaborate with clinicians, engineers, and researchers across Europe and during planned stays.
  • Present findings through publications and conferences.
