Job summary

NTNU in Trondheim is advertising a PhD Candidate position in the Databases and Search group within the Department of Computer Science. The project focuses on developing efficient, scalable search engines with new retrieval models and advanced data processing techniques.

The candidate will pursue a doctoral degree while engaging in research, publishing at top conferences, and gaining experience for a future academic or research career, under the Head of Data and AI unit.

Qualifications

  • Admission to NTNUs IE faculty Doctoral Programme (PhD regulations section 6-1).
  • Master's degree with a major independent project (min. 30 ECTS) required.
  • Master students may apply but degree must be obtained before starting (by 01-Jan-2027).
  • Strong academic background and average grade of B or better on NTNU scale, or documented equivalence.
  • Excellent programming skills; research-oriented Master thesis in databases, information retrieval, data mining, or algorithms.
  • Excellent written and oral English language skills.

Responsibilities

  • Publish in top-tier conferences like SIGIR, SIGMOD, VLDB, and TheWebConf.
  • Participate in the Databases and Search group activities.
  • Assist the primary supervisor with teaching assistant duties related to Databases, Data Mining, and Information Retrieval.
