Job description

Mechanical Site Supervisor – Data Centre

Data centre construction, Narvik, Nordland, Norway

Rotation: 3 Weeks on / 1 Week off

Purpose of the role

The Mechanical Site Supervisor runs the day-to-day mechanical installation on a mission-critical data centre in Narvik, delivering it safely, on programme, to specification and within budget. You will lead teams installing the cooling and building services that keep the data halls running: chillers, dry coolers, CRAH units and fan walls, chilled water pipework, liquid cooling, heat recovery, ventilation and plumbing.

The systems are built for redundancy (N+1 or 2N) and must pass full commissioning through to integrated systems testing. Work continues through Arctic winters, with short daylight hours, snow and low temperatures.

We welcome applications from across Europe. The role runs on a rotation, with flights home and accommodation in Narvik provided, so you do not need to relocate.

Key responsibilities
  • Supervise installation of chillers, dry coolers, CRAH units, fan walls, air handling units and ductwork.
  • Oversee large-bore chilled water and condenser pipework, including welded and grooved systems.
  • Supervise liquid cooling installations, including coolant distribution units (CDUs) and secondary loops.
  • Oversee heat recovery systems and connections to district heating where part of the scope.
  • Enforce clean construction protocols to protect data halls from dust and debris.
  • Work to inspection and test plans: pressure testing, flushing, chemical cleaning and water treatment.
  • Support commissioning from Level 1 to Level 5, including integrated systems testing (IST).
  • Record and correct defects, and manage snagging through to handover.
  • Plan and allocate daily and weekly work to meet the project programme and phased data hall handovers.
  • Manage labour, subcontractors, plant and materials, including long-lead equipment deliveries.
  • Plan logistics around winter weather, road conditions and limited laydown space.
  • Track progress against programme and report delays or risks early.
  • Coordinate with electrical, BMS and controls, and fire protection contractors to avoid clashes.
  • Attend site progress and coordination meetings with the main contractor.
  • Complete daily site diaries, timesheets and weekly progress reports.
  • Record variations, site instructions and design queries, and raise RFIs where needed.
  • Keep marked-up drawings current for as-built records.
Key Requirements
  • At least 3 years' experience supervising mechanical installations, including at least one data centre or other mission-critical project (hospital, pharmaceutical or semiconductor).
  • Strong knowledge of chilled water, process cooling, ventilation and redundant system design.
  • Ability to read mechanical drawings, P&IDs, schematics and BIM models.
  • Experience supporting staged commissioning (Level 1 to Level 5).
  • Experience with liquid cooling or direct-to-chip systems.
  • Experience integrating heat recovery with district heating.
  • Training in lifting operations, work at height and first aid.
