Job summary

Leap29 seeks a Mechanical Project Manager to own the cooling and mechanical package on a major data-centre project in Norway. You will oversee design through commissioning, coordinating with contractors and vendors while safeguarding safety, quality and schedule.

The role requires strong technical depth in cooling, HVAC and controls, plus proven ability to manage long-lead equipment, budgets and interfaces across disciplines on a site-based project.

Responsibilities

• Own delivery plan, interfaces and outcomes for mechanical, HVAC and piping.

• Manage long-lead equipment approvals, delivery, offloading, readiness.

• Verify installation of pipework, pumps, valves, equipment and controls.
• Coordinate testing, flushing, water treatment, balancing and records.
• Track mechanical completion and commissioning readiness with defects.
• Ensure inspection/test plans are completed with evidence.
• Coordinate BMS integration and validate control sequences.
• Drive defects, non-conformances and changes to resolution.
• Stay with the package through testing and final acceptance.
• Deliver turnover files and as-built records for operations.

Mechanical Project Manager

We are recruiting a Mechanical Project Manager to own the cooling and mechanical package on a major data-centre project in Norway.

You will carry the package from coordinated design and long-lead procurement through installation, flushing, testing, controls integration, commissioning and final handover. The role calls for enough technical depth to challenge contractors, enough commercial awareness to protect the package, and the site judgement to keep work moving without compromising safety or quality.

What you will own

• Take responsibility for the delivery plan, interfaces and outcomes of the mechanical, HVAC, cooling and piping packages.
• Lead mechanical design reviews and drive technical queries to decisions that can be built and commissioned.
• Interrogate drawings, specifications, calculations, equipment schedules and technical submissions for coordination gaps and installation risk.
• Set clear deliverables for mechanical contractors, suppliers and specialist equipment vendors, then hold them to agreed dates and quality standards.
• Manage the approvals, manufacture, delivery, offloading and site readiness needed for long-lead mechanical equipment.
• Maintain control of package cost, programme, achieved progress, risk and quality, with corrective action where performance slips.
• Close interfaces with electrical, controls, CSA, fire and commissioning teams before they obstruct installation or testing.
• Plan installation sequence, lifting and access requirements, temporary works and site logistics around the available workfronts.
• Verify that pipework, pumps, valves, cooling equipment and associated controls are installed to the approved design and are accessible for operation and maintenance.
• Coordinate pressure testing, flushing, cleaning, water treatment, testing and balancing, with complete records at each stage.
• Track mechanical completion by system and make commissioning readiness visible, including open defects and missing prerequisites.
• Ensure inspection and test plans are completed, signed and supported by the required evidence.
• Coordinate BMS integration and prove mechanical control sequences with the controls and commissioning teams.
• Drive defects, non-conformances and technical changes to documented resolution.
• Stay with the package through functional testing, integrated systems testing and final acceptance.
• Deliver complete turnover files, operating information and as-built records that the operations team can use.
• Set and maintain the package standard for safety, workmanship and quality control.
• Report achieved progress, forecast dates, package risks and corrective actions to the MEP or Project Director.

What you will bring

• Experience owning a major mechanical package as a Mechanical Project Manager, Mechanical Package Manager, HVAC Project Manager or Mechanical Construction Manager.
• A record of delivering complex mechanical systems from coordinated design through commissioning on major construction projects.
• Strong technical understanding of cooling, HVAC, piping and mechanical controls, including the dependencies between them.
• Experience managing specialist contractors and equipment vendors against defined technical and programme deliverables.
• Working knowledge of mechanical completion, pre-commissioning, testing and formal system turnover.
• The ability to balance programme and cost pressure against safety, quality and technical risk.
• Confidence reviewing mechanical calculations, drawings, schedules, method statements and construction records.
• Reporting that makes progress, risk, ownership and required decisions clear to the wider project team.
• The judgement and adaptability required for a site-based, multidisciplinary project environment.
• The right to work in Norway, or the ability to satisfy the project's confirmed work-permit requirements.
