Job summary

AutoStore seeks a Lead Engineer to lead a small team in Robotics – New Product Development, owning sub-systems across electronics, firmware, and mechanics. You’ll review designs, guide technical decisions, and drive development from concept through production.

The role blends strong technical leadership with people management, planning and coordinating work, supporting engineers, and ensuring milestones and deliverables are met in a fast-growing environment.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of engineering experience in product development, ideally with electronics/firmware and experience leading engineers or technical teams.
• Strong technical understanding across electronics, firmware, and mechanical systems, with ability to review designs and make trade-offs.
• Experience developing physical products for serial or high-volume production, from development through production.
• Experience with project execution and engineering planning, including resource allocation, prioritisation, milestones, and Agile ways of working.
• Solid people and communication skills, with mentoring engineers and collaborating with multiple stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Take technical ownership of assigned sub-systems from development to production.
• Lead and coordinate a multidisciplinary team across electronics, firmware, and mechanics, plan resources, priorities, and reviews.
• Collaborate with Product, System Architecture, Project Management, Supply Chain, Test, Compliance, and Manufacturing to meet milestones.
• Support suppliers and production readiness, promote good engineering practices and standardisation.
• Manage and develop a growing team, including regular 1:1s, feedback, performance follow-up, mentoring, hiring, and onboarding.
