Job summary

Shermco Industries, Inc. is seeking a Field Service Technician - Electrical Testing to perform electrical testing, maintenance, and repair on distribution equipment at customer sites.

You will work with a team to ensure that all work is completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards. The role requires travel to industrial and commercial sites, testing of low, medium and high voltage systems, and on‑call duties with a strong emphasis on safety and compliance.

Qualifications

• Must be able to drive daily locally/regionally and be available for periodic overnight travel.
• ABET/ACCEPTABLE EPC degree or EE degree is preferred.
• NETA Certification (I, II, III or IV) or similar desired.
• At least 2 years of experience performing switchgear testing & troubleshooting.
• Proficient in PC use including email, internet, data entry; Excel experience preferred.
• OSHA 30, MSHA, NFPA 70-E, CPR/First Aid training preferred (training may be provided).

Responsibilities

• Travel to customer sites (industrial & commercial) to inspect, test, troubleshoot, perform start-up and data collection of HV/LV electrical systems.
• Perform instrument transformer tests and power transformer testing (Doble, TTR, Insulation Resistance).
• Test electro‑mechanical and solid‑state relays; conduct cable testing (Tan Delta, Power Factor, VLF, DC Hipot).
• Troubleshoot ATS, switchgear, and circuit breakers; calibrate relays and power metering.
• Maintain safety procedures; participate in on-call rotations and respond to emergencies.
• Complete pre-employment checks and adhere to background and drug screening requirements.
