Unknown Retailer, a well established retailer, seeks a Group Accountant to manage financial operations at its Strand head office. You will ensure compliance with accounting standards and deliver accurate reporting to support strategic decision-making.

Responsibilities include maintaining records, bank reconciliations, budgeting support, and audit preparation, with a focus on control environments and timely reporting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• SAIPA or equivalent professional certification.
• 5–6 years of relevant accounting experience.
• Strong Excel skills

Responsibilities

• Maintain accurate financial records, ledgers and reports.
• Reconcile bank statements and other financial accounts.
• Prepare management reports and budgets/forecasts.
• Perform variance analysis and assist with budgeting.
• Ensure VAT compliance and prepare VAT returns.
• Conduct internal controls and prepare audit files.
• Support auditors with required documentation.
• Generate ad hoc financial reports as needed by management

The purpose of the role will be to manage and oversee financial operations, ensure compliance with accounting standards, and provide accurate financial reporting to support effective decision-making.

Key Responsibilities:

• Prepare and maintain accurate financial records, ledgers, and reports
• Reconcile bank statements and other financial accounts
• Prepare management reports
• Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis
• Ensure compliance with VAT regulations and prepare VAT returns
• Conduct internal audits and implement financial controls
• Prepare audit files for auditors
• Generate ad hoc financial reports as required by management

Skills and Competencies:

• Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting
• Proficiency in accounting software (e.g. Pastel or similar)
