Job summary

DNV is seeking a graduated engineer to join the Machinery and Systems group within Maritime Advisory in Oslo. The role focuses on marine propulsion, shafting, power generation, and auxiliary machinery with emphasis on energy efficiency and environmentally friendly technologies.

The successful candidate will engage in consultancy projects for ship owners, yards, and operators, with opportunities for international travel and hands-on measurements onboard vessels.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Perform strength and functionality analyses of power generation and drive-train components, including material tech and dynamics.
  • Conduct energy efficiency analyses and feasibility studies for new and carbon-free technologies.
  • Carry out systems analyses of conventional and hybrid machinery with system engineering and simulations.
  • Participate in measurements onboard ships and support troubleshooting and root-cause investigations.
  • Contribute to technical analyses of ship machinery, including feasibility studies, design support, and verification work.

About The Role

Section for Machinery and Systems, Maritime Advisory, is responsible for providing technical services within the field of marine propulsion, shafting systems, power generation and auxiliary machinery systems. Beyond traditional- and hybrid machinery solutions, there is also a growing demand for environmentally friendly technologies, energy efficiency and know-how in alternative fuels.

Services are delivered on a consultancy project-work basis to the maritime industries. This includes ship owners and operators, but also yards and makers.

The Machinery and Systems section holds detailed competence in combustion engines, propulsion, turbo machinery, shafts, couplings, gear transmissions, bearings, electric machines, batteries, fuel cells and hybrid systems, as well as control- and system engineering. The section also serves as a competence unit within DNV and collaborates with our world-wide organization.

The section is seeking a graduate candidate with genuine interest- and technical know-how within at least some of the competence areas reflected above.

The position will be a good platform to grow your technical competence and engineering skills and to see practical solutions being made based on theoretical know-how. You will also be able to develop your further career in an international work environment.

The position will offer customer interactions and occasional domestic- and international business travel.

Your main tasks will include some of the following elements:
  • To do strength- and functionality analysis of power generating-machinery and drive-train components, incl. material technology and dynamics
  • To do energy efficiency analyses, studies of new- and carbon free technologies and do feasibility studies
  • To do systems analyses of conventional machinery solutions as well as assessments of hybrid machinery, incl. system engineering and simulations techniques
  • Participate in measurements onboard ships
  • Participate in trouble shooting, technical root cause- and operational failure investigations
  • Participate in technical analyses of ship machinery such as feasibility studies, design assistance and verification work
