Job summary

The Department of Archaeology, Conservation and History at the University of Oslo invites applications for a tenure-track position focused on GIS, statistics and Mesolithic archaeology in Scandinavia. The six-year path includes teaching duties and objective milestones toward a tenured associate professorship.

Applicants should present a research project and long-term plans for building an international group, teaching Stone Age archaeology, and public dissemination of results.

Qualifications

  • PhD in archaeology with Mesolithic focus and GIS/ statistics expertise.
  • Clear knowledge of Mesolithic material culture in Scandinavia.
  • Ability to handle large datasets with GIS and theoretical methods.
  • Experience with high-end digital tools for quantitative/qualitative work.
  • Interdisciplinary research experience across environmental humanities or natural sciences.
  • Demonstrated pedagogical skills; potential for leadership and funding.

Responsibilities

  • Lead GIS and Mesolithic research projects in Scandinavia.
  • Teach and obtain basic pedagogical qualifications; contribute to course development.
  • Build an international research group and pursue external funding.
  • Publish high-quality research and engage in public dissemination.
  • Contribute to academic citizenship and departmental teaching/research goals.
